Lady Gaga Joins Wednesday Season 2 Cast Alongside Jenna Ortega

Lady Gaga is set to join the cast of Wednesday for its second season on Netflix, playing an undisclosed role alongside Jenna Ortega. The news comes after Gaga’s 2011 track “Bloody Mary” gained renewed popularity when fans paired it with Ortega’s now-iconic dance scene from the hit show.

Though details about Gaga’s character and the extent of her role remain under wraps, sources confirm she is currently filming in Europe. Representatives for both Gaga and Netflix have yet to comment on her involvement.

Launched in 2022, Wednesday has become a massive success for Netflix, capturing audiences with its fresh take on Wednesday Addams’ life as she navigates her high school years and hones her psychic abilities. The show stars Jenna Ortega as the titular Wednesday, along with Gwendoline Christie, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Christina Ricci, reprising her legacy with a fresh role.

Ortega herself expressed interest in Gaga joining the cast. Speaking with Variety at the Golden Globes in January 2023, Ortega hinted at a storyline where Gaga’s character could share a unique understanding with Wednesday, much like Wednesday’s dynamic with Mrs. Thornhill. “I think Netflix would love that,” Ortega said, imagining Gaga as a character who could bring a deep, mutual understanding with Wednesday’s dark world.

Gaga’s upcoming appearance on Wednesday isn’t her first venture into television, having won a Golden Globe for her role in American Horror Story’s fifth season. She is also known for her acclaimed performances in films like A Star Is Born, House of Gucci, and Joker: Folie à Deux.

Amid her TV and film commitments, Gaga is preparing for the release of her seventh solo album, due in February 2025. The album is led by the single “Disease,” which was released in October, and she recently followed it up with a live “Antidote” edition and an instrumental version. Gaga also received two Grammy nominations this month for “Die With a Smile,” her collaboration with Bruno Mars.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gaga reflected on her career journey, noting that her latest projects confront the challenges of fame and the personas she’s inhabited, including her upcoming Joker-themed album Harlequin. “For a long time, I was so disconnected from reality, split between who I was and the character I’d created,” she shared. “My fans know that being in that persona has a price, and Harlequin is a way for me to address that journey.”
