Whoopi Goldberg Trips at Start of The View: ‘I Don’t Know What I Tripped Over’
Whoopi Goldberg nearly took an unexpected dive on The View‘s stage as she walked out to start the show on Monday morning.
The 69-year-old actress and co-host stumbled as she made her way to the Hot Topics table at the beginning of the live broadcast, losing her footing despite there being no obvious obstacles in her path. As Goldberg approached the table, her steps faltered, momentarily throwing her off balance before she managed to recover.
Amused, Alyssa Farah Griffin laughed as she took her seat, and once all the cohosts were settled, Sunny Hostin asked about the unexpected stumble. “I don’t know what I tripped over,” Goldberg admitted, smiling. “It was crazy. I was like, skip, skip, skip, ah! I thought, ‘Oh, here I go.’ But I’m steady on my feet now!”
Goldberg’s near-mishap brought back memories of a similar incident involving Joy Behar, who famously fell while attempting to sit in a swivel chair at the Hot Topics table in 2022. That incident prompted The View to swap out the cohosts’ chairs for more stable seating to avoid further falls.

Just this past September, Behar—who has humorously battled everything from her apartment building’s elevator to shampoo bottles—shared another of her classic mishaps, describing a fall in her kitchen. “I fell when I was 20. I always fall, I’m a klutz,” Behar quipped. “The other day, I slipped because the rubber on my shoe hit the floor, and I went flying. What does that have to do with age?”
